I've been wanting to draw a Rayman fan art picture since I absolutely love Rayman Legends and finally got around to doing it! Even though the idea's been floating around inside my head for a while now.
This picture has a story
If you know the game you may figure it out, but in case you don't now the game and/or don't figure it out... I'll explain it to you.
Each boss level in Rayman Legends involves one of the "Dark Teensies" kidnapping a lady teensie and summoning the boss to get away in his funny steampunk vehicle. There are also a bunch of playable teensie characters. Teensie Queen is adored by many male teensies, but she only cares about her childhood hero, Rayman. I figured it'd be funny if she'd act that she's being kidnapped by the enemy expecting Rayman to come to the rescue as usual. But there just happens to be this character, Teensy Ray in the game, too...
Oh well. I don't know if that makes sense
But that's the idea I had. I've always liked teensies, too, and the fact there are more of them nowadays than just the four arguing kings makes me feel all nice and warm inside
Even though I went for a style more cartoony than my usual I still decided to do the entire background and all the colors in watercolors only. It was a lot of fun and pretty exciting
I just still have no idea how to get the most out of watercolors, but this piece taught me a lot about mixing them. I enjoyed mixing purples
The background was inspired after the landscape of the Dojo challenge levels. It's... Not as pretty in my painting, but it would've been dull if it looked exactly the same, wouldn't it not?
The new Rayman games have something of a bubble theme going on that I like
I thought it'd be nice to have a foam effect in the piece because of that. I just should've used less water because the purple shines through quite a lot.
I had a lot of fun with this picture
This will certainly not be the last time I draw Rayman fan art and certainly not the last time I draw Ales
